    Orthophoto

    An orthophoto is a photograph of the Earth that has been geometrically corrected (“orthorectified”) giving it real-world coordinates which can follow any given map projection. These photographs are collected utilizing UAVs, aircrafts, and satellites, and can be used to measure true distances making them a fundamental background in GIS systems.

    Orthophoto can be accessed on demand through streaming services, however, depending on the use case, delivery of a digital file may be required.

  • LiDAR, Light Detection and Ranging, remote sensing

    LiDAR

    LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is a remote sensing method used to examine the surface of the Earth.

    The geospatial point data acquired from this technology provides elevation information used in a wide range of land management and planning efforts. GIS specialists use LiDAR to create all sorts of mapping and modeling products which are an extremely useful resource for decision-makers.

    Due to the large file sizes, LiDAR is generally delivered as digital files.

    The VIEWS Web Mapping Service (WMS) enables the seamless integration and viewing of high-resolution aerial orthophotos across a diverse range of GIS applications. Available through annual subscriptions, users can access the most up-to-date orthophotos specific to their chosen geographic region, be it Alberta or Western Canada. Additional Hillshade WMS also available.

    SPOT WMTS

    The SPOT Web Mapping Tile Service (WMTS) facilitates the smooth integration and visualization of high-resolution satellite orthophotos within a wide spectrum of GIS applications. Available through annual subscriptions, users receive access to the most recent orthophoto updates relevant to their selected geographical areas across Canada, with a robust 90% update rate of the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin (WCSB).
